Question About Career

Christine
The question was, "What work should I do in order to make money and feel fulfilled?"

Shannon Walbran
That's a great question. It's nice and solid. Nice and clear. Which of the two decks do you think? Hold them up for me, both of them?

Christine
Those are the two boxes.

Shannon Walbran
Those are nice. You want that one, and I want the other one. Let's do two cards. Take the map deck.

Christine
Yeah.

Shannon Walbran
Are they shuffled? Or do you want to shuffle them again?

Christine
Can I shuffle them?

Shannon Walbran
What I'd love for you to do is to knock three times on the top of the cards.

Christine
And shuffle after?

Shannon Walbran
Sure. It's okay that you shuffled once already. Just go ahead and shuffle it one more time. The knock knock knock is "Hi, I'm here. And I'm really wanting to ask a question." It's presenting yourself. The cards themselves are not alive. They are only a language. Just like a red light is not a living thing. But it's giving you the language of red, yellow, green, and then you make decisions based on that.

"Please show me a career that I can do." Can you tilt the camera down? Yay. That's a good one. I can totally see it. Show me how you reach for the card. How do you usually reach for it?

Christine
In the middle?

Shannon Walbran
Yep.

Christine
Oh, it's "Strength" upside down? Does upside down matter, Shannon?

Shannon Walbran
On angel cards upside down does not matter. Please show that to the camera so that I can get a really good look at it? Does it only have the word "Strength?"

Christine
There's only the word "Strength" on it. And a woman holding up the world.

Shannon Walbran
And a woman holding up the whole world. What's your first reaction to this card? In angel cards upside down to me doesn't mean anything.

Christine
For me this card is obviously very positive. I have the strength to do anything I want. I'm standing on a peak, or the woman is standing on a peak. She's standing on one foot. She's amazing. I'm in a place of empowerment.

Shannon Walbran
I love your interpretation. And I agree with it. What I'd like to point out is that she's got the whole world in her hand. And so a possible job for you -- let's take it always back to what the actual question is: "What work can I do that I would be good at, that would pay me, that would fulfill me?" Your reach is global. Whatever you create or do because of the internet, you can have clients who are worldwide and that can pay you more money than working or thinking locally.

Christine
Great. Nice card.

Shannon Walbran
Let's go to the next deck and ask the same question from the next deck. "Listen."

Christine
"Listen, quiet your mind, beloved one and listen to our gentle reassurance that everything has been taken care of. Stay in a quiet and receptive state without worrying about the exact nature of your desire's manifestation. A quiet mind and body hears us quickly and clearly. This is our request to you. Listen."

Shannon Walbran
It is beautiful. And you might interpret it as "Oh, I guess I'll just get my answers to these questions by listening, meditating and going for a run." But we need to remember that is the answer to your question. "How am I going to get paid?" I'm going to be listening. I will listen and I will get paid for listening. I will listen to people, and I will listen to them worldwide. Putting this together like a puzzle: which job pays people to listen to them, they have clients worldwide, and they make money doing this?

Christine
Coaching?

As a teacher it would be a natural progression, I think. And I think I'm good with people and psychology, anything sort of psychological or what we're doing now. But I think you have to have a gift ...

Shannon Walbran
Do you? Look at her, look at that character who's on card, who is listening. Do you resonate with her? Do you look like her?

Christine
Kind of yeah, she's peaceful. Yeah, kind of.

Shannon Walbran
I know that card. You kind of look a lot like her.

Christine
I do. Yeah.

Shannon Walbran
The things that bug you about teaching - you've said one, you would rather work for yourself.

Christine
Also, I don't know if I'm a very good teacher. I love knowledge. And I like helping people. But I don't know if the gap between me and them - if I'm doing a good job there. I don't know if I impart knowledge. But I enjoy it if I I explain myself well. In my head, I know what I know. I don't know if I'm always reaching who I'm teaching at their level.

Shannon Walbran
It might be hard to know that when you've got a roomful of ping pong balls that are all bouncing against each other all the time and screaming.

Christine
Yeah. [Laughs]. I enjoy helping people, it's a bit selfish but I like people to like me.

Shannon Walbran
We call that "transference."

Christine
I like to feel valuable. Does that make sense?

Shannon Walbran
It makes a lot of sense.

Christine
Is that selfish?

Shannon Walbran
No, because when a person is happy, and is happy with their teacher, then they learn more. When they don't feel dumb, when they don't feel like they're going to get shouted at.

What if you took an 8 day life coach course, that cost a few grand, and you called yourself "Certified Life Coach," and you started opening up to working with people, wherever, in any English-speaking country, and you accepted payment via PayPal, or one of those. And you were a really good listener and a good reflective listener, what would you think about that?

Christine
Um, I get drained easily. By listening to people. I get drained from teaching, actually, I find that the energy just goes. I enjoy writing. So if I could somehow put this into paper.

Shannon Walbran
There's a model of coaching right now that's called the Betterhelp model, have you heard of Betterhelp? Betterhelp is telehealth. So the psychologist, usually a registered psychologist, but there are other formats that look like Lifeline. The client types things in a formatted email, and the coach gets them every day. But then once a week, they have a call, and it's an hour call, but because the coach has had a chance to review all of the information, it's not so much background about, "Okay, that was my brother. And then there was this party," because it's already written. You get straight to the emotions. If you go to a life coaching school, for example, there's one called Action Factory. Have you heard of Action Factory?

Christine
No, I'm going to write it down.

Shannon Walbran
It's in Fairlands. But I'm sure they're doing virtual stuff these days. How's this in terms of a conversation, draining or not draining?

Christine
Not draining, no. No, it's directed.

Shannon Walbran
And so?

Christine
Yeah. Okay.

Shannon Walbran
Are you willing to look into it?

Christine
Yeah. Thank you.

Shannon Walbran
Next question.
