SEQUENCE

What I did want to do was take the Magoebaskloof card and teach you a new way to do things, which is called a Sequence Spread.

Could you please pull about 10 cards? It doesn't really matter, just the top 10? Could you please pull the top 10 cards from the same deck, from the map deck so that all of the backs of the cards look the same? Can you fan them out in front of me?

Christine
Okay

Shannon Walbran
Cool. Can you pick them up like poker cards?

Christine
Holding them up?

Shannon Walbran
Yep. Holding them up so that you can see them, it's okay.

All right. That's it. Okay. And then is the Magoebaskloof card in there?

Christine
No.

Shannon Walbran
Add it in. Now fold the cards together. Just shuffle those 11 cards. Looking down now so that you can't see their faces. You can mash them on the table if you want, if that's easier.

Christine
Like that?

Shannon Walbran
Yeah, that's fine. I'd like you to spread them out. One at a time, still face down so that you can't see them from left to right. You have about 11 cards, right? There you go.

Christine
[Lays out cards left to right, face down]

Shannon Walbran
This is a sequence. We can't tell the future and we don't know exactly when things are going to happen. But we can find out if it's near or far. That's about as good as we can get. Starting from the left of your screen, can you turn the farthest left card over and read it to us?

Christine
This card is "Moonlight."

Shannon Walbran
Put down "Moonlight" face up, where it was. The second one?

Christine
Do you want me to show you?

Shannon Walbran
Sure.

Christine
It's "Dry Desert."

Shannon Walbran
Number two, number three?

Christine
"Gentle Gardener." Four is "Details, Details."

Shannon Walbran
Nice! Because you're such a good storyteller, are you seeing that there's a story here? Next?

Christine
"Listening."

Shannon Walbran
"Listening?!" Isn't that funny? That is the same card from the other deck. Next?

Christine
Ja. "Coming to Life."

"Cleaning House."

Shannon Walbran
Oh, there it is. What number did it come up?

Christine
Seventh!

Shannon Walbran
Great. We don't need the rest of them, that's fine. You can put the rest of them away. The other four, they're out.

We're not able to say that "this is weeks" or "this is months," we're not able to say that. But what we are able to say is, "These are some steps that need to happen before that event can take place."

"Listening" was one of the steps. And how did we interpret "Listening" from the other deck?

Christine
As a possible career option that would bring me money and fulfillment!

Shannon Walbran
By working one-on-one with people who really need you that you can help but that don't drain you, and that part of it is going to be writing, and part of it is going to be talking. And it can be global, so you could make hard currency.

Christine
Yep.

Shannon Walbran
What else do you notice there? Did you notice the gardening one?

Christine
Yep, that's there. Can I give you my story?

Shannon Walbran
Tell a story, tell a story!

Christine
The first one is "Moonlight." That is just listening. That's just your gut, following your gut. It's listening. It's feeling, it's solitude, and awareness. And the second one is feeling ...

Shannon Walbran
Lost in the desert!

Christine
I am! That's me. On my own.

Shannon Walbran
She looks a bit like The Little Prince.

Christine
Yeah, a sense of hopelessness. But looking out to the horizon. Like there's something out there, but it's not in my immediate space.

Shannon Walbran
And very alone.

Christine
The "Gardening" card comes up after that. Very contrasting that card, rebirth, fertility...

Shannon Walbran
Working in your actual garden, even though you're feeling alone and isolated, and with no hope, "Oh, things are so hard, but at least I can work in my own garden."

Christine
Yeah. The next card is quite nice. It's clarity. The word clarity pops out, it comes with looking into a new path --

Shannon Walbran
Also studying! Don't you see some studying there? Burning the midnight oil and maybe taking that class so that you can become a life coach?

Christine
Yep.

Then there's the "Listening" card,

Shannon Walbran
There it is!! Right after the studying card!

Christine
And a beautiful "Coming to Life" card, something new, a new path.

Shannon Walbran
And she's so joyful!

Christine
Ja, it's a beautiful card.

Shannon Walbran
"Cleaning House," getting ready to move.

Christine
The "Cleaning House" card.

Okay, so a bit of a path, a bit of a road.

Shannon Walbran
I see a narrative there. It wasn't that much of a stretch to create a story out of that. Anytime you have a big goal card in front of you, you can ask to be given a sequence.

If this thing came up number one, then you would know, okay, I really need to act on that and make that kind of thing happen right now. If one card was before it, you would say, "Well, what is that one card?" That one card, we don't know, it could take a day or it could take a month to get that card done. But what do I need to do? "What's standing in between me and that thing that I'm being called to do?"

Christine
I'm going to keep this on the table.

Shannon Walbran
You can take photographs of it. It's always helpful to either write down the sequence or the name or the text, or to take a snapshot of it and to keep a journal around that.
